Greetings,
We can never say enough about veterans and active service men and women who are making sacrifices for freedom and democracy. In addition to the many services and resources we have established through the Mayor’s Office of Veterans’ Affairs, this week we officially opened the fourth Veterans Treatment Court in the country, right here in Tulsa.
Many veterans come back from combat or from overseas service with their lives changed forever. Veterans are at high risk for drug and alcohol abuse and there is a high incidence of arrest for drug or alcohol offenses. This court offers them treatment; a chance to rehabilitate instead of doing time in jail. It is one thing we as a society can do to give something of value back to the men and women who deserve to have a second chance. And it is the right thing to do.
On behalf of Tulsa, I want to thank all the partners involved in making the Veterans Treatment Court a reality, including the Tulsa County DA Tim Harris, the Veterans Administration office in Muskogee, Judge Sarah Smith, Sheriff Stanley Glanz's office and Matt Stiner of my office, a veteran of the Iraq war, a U.S. Marine and a dedicated public servant who brought everyone together in creation of this court.

Tulsans Circle
the Globe Twice
Tulsans have done it again! They’ve added 25,000 miles for a total of 50,000 miles logged since the Tulsa Run – the equivalent of circling the globe TWICE at the equator!
Tulsa Million Miles, an initiative of Mayor Kathy Taylor’s Fitness Challenge, offers Tulsans an interactive Web site where they can log their exercise miles by running, walking, biking, swimming, or doing a multitude of other exercises. The Web site helps keep track of individuals and groups’ progress and also keeps a running total of the total number of miles Tulsans have logged.
Safety Tips for
the Holiday Season
The City of Tulsa encourages you to enjoy a happy and safe holiday season by staying alert towards possible crime.
Christmas and the holiday shopping season are a peak time for crimes such as home burglaries, thefts, and muggings. The reasons for an end-of-the-year splurge in crime range from gift purchasing to travel, which involves leaving the house empty for several days.
Sweet December
At Tulsa's PAC
It will be a sweet December at the Tulsa Performing Arts Center with holiday themed shows taking center stage.
Ringing in the holidays on Dec. 3 is Tulsa’s only auditioned community handbell choir, the Tulsa Festival Ringers, performing traditional Christmas carols and other classic holiday tunes. The Tulsa Performing Arts Center Trust presents the group in two free concerts — at 11:30 a.m. and 12:45 p.m. on the Old London set of American Theatre Company’s A Christmas Carol in the John H. Williams Theatre.
Be a Woodwise Consumer
This fall and all year long, be a “woodwise” consumer. There are several ways you can reduce your use of paper, and thus reduce the number of trees cut down each year to provide it. Remember, trees pull carbon dioxide out of the atmosphere and put oxygen back in! Our forests, particularly the rain forests of Central and South America, are crucial to life on Planet Earth.
