This city is known for its innovation, risk-taking and entreprenuerial
spirit, which is evident in our history as the world's oil capital. Today,
Tulsa still strives for the best and the innovative, from the one of a kind
BOK Center to the new energy saving City Hall at One Technology Center. We
are making strides in promoting diversity and opportunity through
partnerships, and proving our leadership can provide great education,
promote public safety and propel Tulsa's economic development.
Our accomplishments are receiving national recognition. Recently, Forbes.com
recognized Tulsa as one of the "10 Best Cities for Jobs" due to its income
growth, cost of living, job growth, and low unemployment. With Tulsa's new
energy, we can aim to be even higher on the list next year.
These accomplishments have led to Tulsa's selection as one of four cities to
host a new pilot program for design excellence through the Mayors' Institute
on City Design (MICD). The Institute recognizes that Tulsa is a unique
laboratory for national urban planning and transportation experts. The word
is getting out, and now people across the country and around the world are
starting to realize what we have known for a long time: Life is better in
Tulsa.

Neighborwoods Tree Planting
Held Saturday Feb 23th Updated 2/25/2008
NeighborWoods, Mayor Kathy Taylor’s joint program of the City of Tulsa and Up With Trees, is designed to plant trees in neighborhoods around the city, particularly those hardest hit by the December ice storm.
More than 50 volunteers from the University of Tulsa helped plant along with representatives from the Owen Park Neighborhood Association.
Kenney Chesney to Perform at the BOK Center Updated 2/25/2008
On Sept. 10, 2008, lights at the new arena will go on for country singer and songwriter Kenny Chesney, who will stop in Tulsa as part on his nationwide "Poets and Pirates" tour
The Cesar Pelli-designed BOK Center was chosen as only one of 13 arenas across the U.S. to host Chesney's concerts! The concert will also feature special guest LeAnn Rimes.
Red Fork Main Street Program Celebrates Achievements

RedFork Main Street celebrated a year of achievements at its annual luncheon last week. RedFork Main Street is Tulsa’s first urban Main Street project and is located on Southwest Boulevard between the Arkansas River and 33rd West Avenue. It is one of only three Urban Main Street projects in Oklahoma.
“RedFork Main Street is a fantastic project coordinated by individuals and groups that are passionate about West Tulsa,” said Mayor Kathy Taylor, who advocated that Southwest Boulevard be a part of the state’s Urban Main Street program. “I am proud to support the program and I commend them for multiple accomplishments during this past year.”
City's New Golf Course Manager Promotes Courses at Expo Updated 2/25/2008
The City of Tulsa’s golf courses – Mohawk and Page Belcher – were courting new customers at the Tulsa Golf Expo held Feb. 22-24 at the Fairgrounds QuikTrip Center.
Billy Casper Golf Inc. recently entered into a contract with the City to manage the Mohawk and Page Belcher golf courses. General Manager Tom Wolff brought several Billy Casper staff members to promote golf at City courses. During the weekend expo, visitors to the Tulsa Golf booth could receive a coupon for “Free Round of Golf with Cart with purchase of $25 hot dog” – an innovative, thought-provoking approach.
Tulsa Selected as
Pilot Program City

Mayor Kathy Taylor received word this week that Tulsa would be one of four cities recognized by The Mayors' Institute on City Design (MICD) as a host for a new pilot program for design excellence.
Tulsa has been selected as a prime laboratory for national urban planning and transportation experts. MICD is a partnership program of the National Endowment for the Arts, the American Architectural Foundation, and the United States Conference of Mayors. Since 1986, the program has assisted over 750 mayors in transforming their communities through good urban design.
Monopoly - Here & Now Edition Updated 2/25/2008
Tulsa could find a home on the new Monopoly Here & Now World Edition. All around the world MONOPOLY fans are casting votes via online ballots to determine which of the world's greatest cities will be on the first edition game board.
To nominate Tulsa for the wild-card city, voters can go to www.monopoly.com by Thursday, Feb.28 to cast their votes. On March 1, the top 20 wild-card city nominations will be up for online voting, and go through the ballot process.
Second-Pass Debris Clearing Continues Updated 2/25/2008
Ice storm debris removal work continues throughout Tulsa and, as of late last week, more than 2.14 million cubic yards of tree limbs have been gathered from city streets.
The contractor reported that the second pass is progressing faster than the first and requested that after the second pass is completed, Tulsa residents be given as much as a week in which to haul remaining debris to the curb before the third pass begins. Work on the second pass will continue for several more days, he said.
