Dear Tulsans:
Last week I pledged to update you on the decisive action my administration is taking regarding recent incidents involving the City. The lead story in this edition of E-News details the action steps taken thus far. Let me assure you, more actions will be announced in the days and weeks to come.
My management team spent part of yesterday in a seminar dealing
with core values and we are
re-doubling our efforts to make the inner-workings of City Hall as transparent as the glass façade at One Technology Center. An ethical revival, however, will take all of us.
I urge you, if you know of wrong doing, please report it, no matter whether it is white collar crime or violent crime. If you are aware of problems with the City of Tulsa, please report it to our Ethics Hotline at 1-877-888-0002. It is operated by The Network, which is an independent business that works with the City of Tulsa to take anonymous reports.
Sincerely,
Kathy Taylor
Mayor
Mayor Acts Quickly to Evaluate Departments
Mayor Kathy Taylor has initiated several action steps to correct processes and address issues that arose last week in three City departments.
The City of Tulsa is fully cooperating with the U.S. Attorney’s office in the fraud and bribery indictments of two former Public Works Department employees and four businessmen dealing with Public Works’ contractors. In order to tighten measures against fraud and ethics violations, the City’s management team is undertaking a compliance and standards review and launching an employee education and training program to ensure that city employees know how to recognize and report ethical violations at any level of city government without fear of reprisal. Mayor Taylor is leading her management team in interviewing forensic accountants and auditors who can independently audit Public Works to recommend best practices to implement throughout the contracting process.
Tulsa Dedicates New City Hall
Mayor Kathy Taylor and the Tulsa City Council, led by Council Chairman John Eagleton, dedicated City Hall at One Technology Center last Thursday. Event festivities included the unveiling of a commemorative plaque for the public entrance, music from the Central High School choir, refreshments and public tours of the building.
“We are here to celebrate yet another benchmark in Tulsa’s modern history,” Mayor Taylor said. “This event places us firmly into a leadership role in this new century, and this building makes a bold declaration of who we are as a city. One Technology Center underscores our intentions to be a force in the future, and a leader in this new national and international economy.”
