Mayor Kathy Taylor joined Tulsa Parks’ staff in kicking off Fitfest, a Tulsa Million Miles event last Saturday at Hicks Recreation Center.
Fitfest showcased Tulsa Parks’ fitness and health programs and helped Tulsans create free accounts on TulsaMillionMiles.com – a Mayor’s Fitness Challenge initiative and Web site dedicated to helping individuals and groups log their exercise miles to achieve Tulsa’s goal of walking, running, biking and swimming one million miles or more.
“Now more than ever it’s important for Tulsans to eat healthy and exercise regularly,” Mayor Kathy Taylor said, “especially in light of Tulsa’s national rankings and alarming statistics on childhood obesity.” “Fitfest is the first of many events this year that will encourage Tulsa families to get on the path to fitness and health in 2009,” Taylor added.
On Jan. 10 the health4life 2009 Transformation Challenge kicks off with a midnight workout at Woodland Hills Mall (Dillard’s Court). A portion of the registration fees will be donated to Tulsa Parks. The grand champion and runner-ups from this 12-week program will be determined based on a point system, which includes their participation on TulsaMillionMiles.com.
