On Friday, March 27, in recognition of Arbor Day 2009, the City of Tulsa will plant more than 40 trees at Kendall Whittier Park, 2645 E. Fifth St.
Kendall Whittier Elementary School students will participate in the tree plantings, along with the University of Tulsa sorority Kappa Alpha Theta, as well as Up With Trees, the City’s nonprofit partner in planting and caring for trees.
Mayor Kathy Taylor will officially proclaim Arbor Day in Tulsa at 2:30 p.m. and will announce two awards the city has received for stewardship of trees as a valuable asset. She also will accept a special donation to ReGreen Tulsa, the Mayor’s tree-planting initiative to replace those that were lost in the December 2007 ice storm.
Now through the month of April is a good time to plant trees in Tulsa. To help Tulsa replenish trees and beautify our city, residents can plant trees and register them with ReGreen Tulsa, volunteer to participate in tree plantings or make a donation toward planting trees online.
