City Hall's New Printing Policies Expected to Reduce Costs

Two new policies, effective March 2, are expected to save an estimated $51,240 per year in printing costs for city staff working out of City Hall at One Technology Center.

In the first policy change, default settings on all multi-functional printing devices (color and black and white) will be changed to duplex printing (double-sided). This setting change will reduce the City’s paper costs by an estimated $41,400 per year, by utilizing both sides of printing paper. It is still possible for the end user to select the single-sided printing option if it is required for their project.

Also on March 2, the default settings on the color multi-functional devices will be changed to black and white. Printing may still be done in color if the end user selects that option. By preventing pages unnecessarily printed in color, the city is expected to save, on average, around $9,840 per year. It costs .0059 per page to produce a black and white copy and .0425 per page to produce a color copy at a cost difference of .0366 per page.
