Registration is now open for the Cradle to Prison Pipeline Summit hosted by Mayor Kathy Taylor in Tulsa on April 21, 2009. The summit will focus on the issues of incarceration, health and mental health coverage, poverty, and education.
Featured speaker for the summit will be Children’s Defense Fund (CDF) founder and president Marian Wright Edelman and Oklahoma leaders. CDF released the Cradle to Prison Pipeline report in late 2007, outlining major social issues that many times determine outcomes for children and youth. CDF also constructed a statistical breakdown for each state. The Tulsa summit will focus on Oklahoma stats and possible solutions.
“There are direct correlations between a first-class education and successful adults,” said Mayor Kathy Taylor. “This summit is designed to deal with these issues head on. I am happy to have Marian Wright Edelman, a wonderful leader in this field, as a speaker at our Tulsa summit.”
The event will be held at the Donald W. Reynolds Center, University of Tulsa, beginning at 8 a.m. and will continue until 5:30 p.m.
Summit partners include US Cellular, the University of Tulsa, the Child Care Resource Center of Tulsa, and the Mayor’s Office.
Cost is $25 per person. Register online for the summit. For more information about CDF and the national Cradle to Prison Pipeline campaign, visit: www.childrensdefense.org
