Tulsans are certainly shaping up, one mile at a time. Since the launch of Tulsa Million Miles last October, they’ve logged 100,000 miles on the Web site. That’s the equivalent of circling the globe FOUR TIMES at the equator!
Tulsa Million Miles, an initiative of Mayor Kathy Taylor’s Fitness Challenge, offers Tulsans an interactive Web site where they can log their exercise miles by running, walking, biking, swimming, or participating in a number of other physical activities to get healthy and fit. The Web site helps keep track of individuals and groups’ progress and also keeps a running total of the total number of miles Tulsans have logged.
“Many of us make the same New Year’s resolutions year after year,” said Mayor Kathy Taylor, “to eat healthy and exercise on a regular basis.”
“TulsaMillionMiles.com is a great way for you to be true to your resolution of being more fit and healthy. It offers an “Accountability Partners” tool, which can keep you motivated to stick with your exercise program, maps of local trails, and fun fitness events for the entire family. It’s easy to log in and navigate through the Web site. When I log my exercise miles, I enjoy watching the counter at the top of the Web site change,” she added.
There is another great reason for Tulsans to log on to TulsaMillionMiles.com. Not only can you log your exercise miles, but TulsaMillionMiles.com users can guess the date and time our city will reach its goal of a million miles. Users must be 14 years or older to enter the drawing. Eligible entries (only one per person) must be submitted before we reach 800,000 total miles. The grand prize winner will receive the following:
Tulsans can visit www.tulsamillionmiles.com to log their exercise miles, check out 2009 fitness events, submit a guess for the million miles contest, and much more! Together, let’s do our part to help Tulsa shape up, one mile at a time.
