Vounteers are being sought to take part July 12 in a neighborhood improvement project in the Kendall-Whittier neighborhood, one of Tulsa’s oldest and largest neighborhoods.
Kendall-Whittier is undergoing a neighborhood revitalization project, a grant-funded project aimed at improving quality of life and raising property values for those who live, work and own property there. The project is led by the Neighborhood Services section of the Working In Neighborhoods Department. It includes clean-up and fix-up efforts as well as enforcement of nuisance ordinances and repair or removal of abandoned and dilapidated structures that present health and safety hazards.
On Saturday, July 12, the City will provide paint, stencils and neighborhood maps so that volunteers can paint bright, easy-to-see address numbers on curbs. Putting visible numbers on curbs not only makes it easier for citizens to locate addresses, it can cut important seconds or minutes from the time needed for ambulance, police, fire and other emergency responders to locate an address, especially at night.
Volunteers are asked to meet at 8:30 a.m. on July 12 at Kendall-Whittier Park, 2645 E. 5th St. They will be assigned to teams and sent to specific streets within the neighborhood.
Volunteers can contact the project coordinator to sign up or ask questions by calling 596-7217 or e-mailing rdawson@cityoftulsa.org.
