City crews began treating arterial streets at 8 p.m. Wednesday as the first major winter storm of the season moved into the Tulsa area.
By 7 a.m., crews had worked 516 overtime hours and treated 3,783 lane-miles of arterial streets with 1,065 tons of salt. Crews also plowed 1,574 lane miles to free them of accumulated ice by early morning.
Crews continue to work today and plan to work around the clock through Saturday or until conditions improve.
Airport Open; Some Flights Delayed or Cancelled
At Tulsa International Airport, some flights are being delayed or cancelled because of the weather. Passengers are encouraged to contact their airlines to inquire about specific flights and to re-schedule travel if necessary. As of mid-day, takeoffs and landings were still possible and runway conditions are being reevaluated every half-hour. Travelers can find contact information for each airline serving Tulsa International Airport at the airport’s website by going to www.tulsaairports.com and clicking on the link to Tulsa International Airport.
Water Service Normal

Trash Collections, Meter Reading Delayed
City of Tulsa haulers did not pick up trash in the northwest quadrant today. Customers whose trash is collected once a week on Thursdays should put out their trash on Saturday, December 2. If conditions do not improve for Friday trash service in the northwest quadrant, customers whose trash is picked up on Fridays should put it at the curb on Sunday, December 3.
Customers with twice-a-week service whose trash is not picked up today should put their trash out on Monday, December 4. Twice-a-week customers whose trash is not picked up on Friday should put their trash at the curb on Tuesday, December 5.
Those plans are tentative, depending on how long hazardous conditions on city streets remain.
Meter readers for City of Tulsa utility service are performing only limited field activities today and Friday, to avoid injuries and damage to property. Water meter reading and credit collection activities will be postponed. Crews will focus on emergencies when water needs to be turned on or off.

The Tulsa Performing Arts Center reports that scheduled events will be held. One event, the Cornerstone Assistance League banquet scheduled for Thursday evening, has been cancelled at the Tulsa Convention Center.

The Tulsa Zoo and Redbud Valley Nature Center are closed today and will be closed Friday because of hazardous conditions on sidewalks and trails. Oxley Nature Center remained open today but will probably be closed Friday.
