Filing Complaint with Human Rights Department

WHO MAY FILE

Any person who believes that he or she has been subjected to unlawful discrimination may file a charge with the Human Rights Department.

WHEN TO FILE

A charge should be filed with the Human Rights Department as soon as possible after the act of discrimination occurs.

A charge must be filed within 6 months of the date of discrimination. 

HOW TO FILE

Charges may be filed in person by filling out a form provided by the Human rights Department. 

WHERE TO FILE

Charges must be filed at the Human Rights Department of the City of Tulsa, 707 South Houston, Tulsa Oklahoma 74125.

HOW TO START THE PROCESS

A charge may be initiated by calling, writing, or visiting the Human Rights Office,100 S. Cincinnati, Tulsa Oklahoma 74127, 918 596-7818, FAX 596-7826.  An Intake Officer will assist you with drafting a formal charge (All formal charges must be completed at the City of Tulsa, Human Rights Department).  A charge should briefly set forth the facts and circumstances surrounding the alleged discrimination.

INTAKE QUESIONIARE

After a Charge Has Been Filed With the Human Rights Department

  • When the Department receives your signed Formal Compliant of Discrimination the Respondent is provided with a copy of your Charge along with a request for Information and Documents. You will receive a copy of the material that is sent to the Respondent. The Respondent generally has ten days to respond to your allegations. Extensions of time may be allowed at the discretion of the Department.
  • A copy of the Respondents Answers will be sent to you when they are received by the department. You will have the opportunity to review and provide, in writing, any information which would tend to show that the reason(s) given by the Respondent for its action(s) is not accurate, or does not respond to your allegations of
  • As soon as is possible, an Investigator will be assigned to your case. You will be notified of the name of the Investigator and further communication should be made with that person. The Investigator will review your file and notify both parties as to how the investigation will proceed.
