The first North Tulsa Economic Development Initiative (NTEDI) Leadership Program has finished its first year and is excited to carry on it’s tradition in Tulsa. The 15-week program was made up of 21 urban stakeholders who learned a variety of skills needed for planning, community assessment and local development.
With the help of Mayor Kathy Taylor and Dana Shadid, executive director for the Oklahoma Community Institute, the NTEDI Leadership Program was developed as part of the north Tulsa Economic Development Initiative that started in mid-2007.
Modeled after the Citizens Academy of the Community Institute, this program is unique from other leadership programs in that it provides hands-on skills, visual assessments and builds community plans in different areas of Tulsa that include: retail development, office complexes, warehouses and distribution centers.
“This is an exciting program that promises to bring positive change to the north Tulsa area,” Mayor Taylor said. “It hinges on people who are very dedicated to the cause of bringing economic improvements to north Tulsa.”
All class members concentrated on areas of north Tulsa for their work plan, including 36th Street and North Peoria, Brady Heights, Northgate, North Apache and Lewis Avenue.
Korsha Palmer, a north Tulsa resident and recent graduate of the NTEDI Leadership Program said, “This program has inspired and motivated us all. We understand that we have to take action now. By learning the process of land development and community revitalization, we are ready to move forward in the right direction.”
