When should I set out my recycling bin?
Recycling bins must be out by 6 a.m. on your collection day. So, it is suggested that you take them out the night before. Be sure to place them within three feet of the curb, alley or roadway where the truck collects them.
What if my recycling does not fit inside my bin?
You can always set out extra recycling materials. Just put them in paper grocery bags or small cardboard boxes and set them next to your recycling bin for pick-up. Recyclables need to be placed loosely so that the hauler can sort them quickly. You may also purchase an additional bin at a cost of $4.
What if I find that my recycling container is too heavy to carry to the curb?
A wheel and handle kit can be purchased at an additional cost of $4.00. The kit makes it easy to pull your recyclables to the curb to be collected. A lid to keep moisture from recyclables can also be purchased for $3.00. Each of these items is a one-time charge that will be applied to your City of Tulsa utility bill.
Why are steel cans, cardboard, and other recyclable materials not collected?
Iit is not yet profitable for the haulers to collect more recyclables until a larger percentage of the population in Tulsa is participating in the program. Once this takes place we will be able to expand the program to include more materials.
How will I remember what is recyclable and when my pickup days are?
Refrigerator magnets are available to subscribers that contain instructions for what materials are recyclable and how to prepare them. Also, there is a place for you to write in your collection days as a handy reminder. If you would like a magnet please call 596-9777.
