General Purpose
Performs administrative, clerical, and/or secretarial duties applying various levels of technical knowledge and administrative skills.  Positions in this category range from highly skilled administrative positions to entry level support staff positions.

Requirements
:
The entry-level positions require graduation from high school.   We have five levels of office support staff each requiring different amounts of education, skills and experience.

Beginning Salary Range: 
Employees placed in positions designated as shift work shall receive a shift differential of $.40 or $.60 per hour depending on the time their shift begins.

Office Assistant I   $1,433/Mo.
Office Assistant II  $1,606/Mo. 

Skills Tests Required:
The majority of the Office Support positions require skill assessments on keyboarding and/or data entry, word processing, grammar and/or spelling. Some positions require additional assessments in spreadsheet, database, operating system, power point, and position knowledge (written) assessments.

CLERICAL HELPER – Public Works/Underground Collections - Part-Time  Assist office personnel in basic clerical tasks.  Requirements: Completions of the 10th grade and ability to pass a basic reading/writing aptitude test or be currently enrolled and attending high school maintaining at least a "C" Grade Point Average.  Skills Tests:  Data entry at 5,000 KPH with less than 7 errors.  Location:  9319 e. 42nd Street North.  Hours: Flexible.

OFFICE ASSISTANT II - Public Works/Distribution Maintenance: (Shift work, multiple positions - Direct telephone contact with customers, dispatching to field crews, a variety of data entry, information gathering; and general office responsibilities. Weekend and evening work as well as variable flextime schedule may be required to accomplish adequate manpower coverage for the section. Requirements: HS diploma/GED, one (1) year general office experience; exceptional verbal communication and customer skills. Skills Tests: Data entry, word processing and spreadsheet no pass, no fail. Hours: Subject to Shift.

OFFICE ASSISTANT II - Municipal Court, Court Operations-Booking 2172-0044CM: Responsible for general office duties including assisting customers with court procedures, preparing releases for prisoners on City charges, and heavy customer service with the public. *Working with officers, attorneys, and bondsmen may be required. Requirements: HS diploma/GED, one (1) year general office experience. Skills Tests: Spelling, Grammar and Data Entry, no pass/no fail. *Stressful working environment. May require working holidays and overtime. Hours and days off vary with shift. On stand-by once monthly.

Office Assistant II – Police Records: (Shift work) - Responsible for rapid and accurate keying of basic information by operation of a data entry station; assist law enforcement personnel and the public in retrieving and duplicating files; conducts cash transactions; provides radio response to field police officers. Requirements: HS diploma/GED, one (1) year general office experience; exceptional verbal communication and customer skills. Skills Tests: Data entry at 5,000 kph with less than 5 errors. Hours: Subject to Shift

OFFICE ASSISTANT II - Public Works/Policy Development-Solid Waste Systems- Responsible for general office duties, including data entry, correspondence, and customer service. Requirements: HS diploma/GED and one (1) year general office experience. Licenses: Class D drivers license. Skills Tests: Data entry at the basic level; word processing and spreadsheet no pass/fail. Hours: Monday through Friday 8 to 5.

OFFICE ASSISTANT II - Public Works Underground Collections (Shift work, multiple positions) - Responsible for receiving work and determining the appropriate course of action; creating memos and correspondence; performing research and compiling reports; maintaining accounts and computerized record keeping systems; supporting administration staff and field crews; monitoring alarm systems; and customer service. Requirements: HS diploma/GED and one (1) year general office experience. Skills Tests: Data entry at the basic level; word processing and spreadsheet no pass/fail. Hours: Subject to Shift
