Planning
MISSION STATEMENT:
Assist Tulsans in improving their lives, neighborhoods and
community.
It is a simple mission statement that accurately describes the
Planning Department's guiding principles. Planners do not set the
agenda. Citizens do. Planners perform a wide variety of tasks in
support of citizen-driven plans, projects, and programs. These
tasks and activities touch on virtually every aspect of our
citizen's lives. Our mission is still applicable, and we believe it
is more important than ever.
Our planners work directly with citizens to shape the future of
our neighborhoods and City, with guidance provided by the Tulsa
Comprehensive Plan. We help citizens develop comprehensive short
and long range plans for improving our community. Beyond plans, we
assist the community and other City departments with projects and
programs. This combination of plans and project implementation
leads to expanded economic opportunity; helps residents achieve
neighborhood revitalization and improved public safety; assists in
the development of the city; and enhances the quality of life for
Tulsans.
The Planning Department provides an interface between citizens
and City that is not duplicated elsewhere in the City. We indulge
in a process of engagement that helps our citizens move beyond the
problems of today and allows them to take an active role in
developing and delivering a shared vision for our City's
future.
