All requests for information or referrals are handled by the
I&A Specialist within the Tulsa Area Agency for Aging. Their
primary role is to answer your questions about the types of
services that are available in the community to help you or a loved
one. He/she can also send you literature on practically any topic
that is related to retirement, Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security,
senior housing, or other areas of interest to seniors.. If the
information is not readily at hand, it will be researched for
you.
Q: How do I contact my local Information and
Assistance Specialist?
A: Call 1-800-211-2116. This toll-free number
is designed to connect with the Information and Assistance
Specialist for the area from which you are calling. If you dial the
toll-free number from anywhere in Tulsa, Creek, or Osage counties
you will contact the Information and Assistance Specialist at Tulsa
Area Agency on Aging. However, if you dial the toll-free number
while visiting family in Enid, OK you will connect with the
Information and Assistance Specialist that serves the Enid area.
This toll-free number is not available outside the state of
Oklahoma.
Q: How many times can I request information or
referral services?
A: You are free to contact the Information and
Assistance Specialist as many times as you need to. There is no
limit to the ways that he/she may be able to help you. However, we
are limited on the number of copies of some brochures that can be
sent to one individual or household. Please consider the
Information and Assistance Specialist as your information source on
aging issues.
Q: How much does it cost for me to receive
I&A services?
A: I &A services are free to seniors 60
years of age or older, or their caregivers. Services are paid for
by the Older Americans Act. Callers will never be asked to pay a
fee for I&A services. Some special events may require a fee,
but they are very few and often subsidized.
Q: What other services does the Information and
Assistance Specialist provide?
A: A bi-monthly newsletter "Coming of Age''
Senior Health Insurance Counseling; Referrals to community-based
service providers. Also, throughout the year, the Information and
Assistance Specialist will coordinate special events for senior
citizens.
Q: What do I need to do to be placed on the
mailing list for the newsletter, "Coming of Age"?
A: Your name can be added to the "Coming of
Aging" newsletter mailing list by simply calling 1-800-211-2116.
There is no charge for receiving the newsletter. Each newsletter
will provide interesting information about aging issues and keep
you informed about special events.
Q: What types of Special Events does the Tulsa
Area Agency on Aging sponsor?
A: Examples of special events include: Senior
Day at the Capitol, Senior Spelling Bees, Senior Poetry Contests,
Legislative Forums on Elderly Issues, Conferences, Workshops,
etc.
Q: What hours of the week are I&A Services
available?
A: The office hours for I&A are from 8:00
a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday-Friday (excluding holidays). The
Information and Assistance Specialist's telephone has voice mail
which allows you to leave messages. The Information and Assistance
Specialist will return your call as soon as possible.
