Break The Ice

Break The Ice for Summer Fun!

It may seem too early to think about summer pools, but not for the Tulsa Parks Department.  The goal for the "Break The Ice" pool drive this year is $300,000 - enough to open five pools in 2010.

As of February 18th, $70,000 has been raised.

"Every year we look for sponsors to help get the pools opened, maintained, and staffed," describes Lucy Dolman, Parks Director.  "Last year, we were fortunate to raise $125,000 from companies and individuals that, when combined with budget dollars, was enough to open eight pools.  Due to budget cuts, we currently have nothing in the budget for pools.  Any pools opened this year will be because of donations only."

The youngest pool is over 30 years old, so even general maintenance can be very expensive.  "Break The Ice" reminds people to start thinking and planning this winter for pools to be opened next summer.

If enough funding is reached, those pools scheduled to open are:

Berry Park           5002 N. Wheeling Avenue
Lacy Park            2134 N. Madison Place
McClure Park       7440 E. 7th Street
Reed Park           4233 S. Yukon
Whiteside Park    4009 S. Pittsburg

Depending on the Sponsorship Level, perks include season pool passes, private pool parties, and pool name recognition.  Any size donations can be made by printing the Donation Form and mailing in a check.  For more information, call 596-PARK.
