Projects Announced for Veterans

Tulsa veterans and military personnel are the focus of several new City programs that have been announced in recent weeks by Mayor Kathy Taylor.
Earlier this fall the mayor announced the appointment of a Veterans Advisory Council (Press Release).
More recently the mayor, along with Tulsa Police Department officials, announced the launch of Operation Patriot Watch (Press Release) in which Oklahoma Army National Guard troops on active-duty assignments overseas can request that Tulsa Police patrol officers be informed of their home addresses so that officers will know someone at those homes is away on military duty. Emergency 911 operators will also have the information so that they can advise officers if a call originates from one of the soldiers’ homes.
Mayor Welcomes AHA

Mayor Kathy Taylor last week welcomed the Arabian Horse Association (AHA) to Tulsa for it’s annual conference which precedes the U.S. National Arabian and Half-Arabian Championship Horse Show.
That event, which is coming to Expo Square in October 2008, is expected to bring 2,500 horses and 15,000 visitors and generate $40 million for the local economy.

Exhibit at PAC

The works of Tulsa artist, architect and architectural historian John Brooks Walton are on display in a free exhibition through Nov. 30 at the Tulsa Performing Arts Center gallery.
The exhibit will be open from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. daily and during events in the Chapman Music Hall at the PAC.
BOK Center
Founders Announced

Mayor Kathy Taylor and Representatives from Cherokee Nation Enterprises and Cox Communications Friday announced sponsorship packages from two of the initial BOK Center Founders whose investment will assist in providing for enhancements to the BOK Center.
A representative of each sponsor ceremoniously attached their organization’s name along side the previously announces Founding Partners to a 16x31-foot sign on the BOK Center site.
Centennial Year Busy One

Last Friday (Nov. 16) Oklahomans statewide celebrated the state’s first 100 years and noted the many events and projects that have filled the year since the Oklahoma Centennial was kicked-off in Tulsa in November of 2006.
Tulsa served as the host city for the kick-off week of the Oklahoma Centennial. During that celebratory week Tulsans delighted in the spectacular pyrotechnics that lit up the night.
City Council Hosts Town Halls

The Tulsa City Council recently created a Streets Subcommittee to investigate ways to address deterioriating street conditions and street maintenance.
The Council and staff, with assistance from the Public Works Department's Engineering Services section, have hosted three Town Hall meetings and will be hosting three more in coming days so gather citizen input and to explain to Tulsans how streets projects are identified and funded.
Club Seats Sell Out Quickly

All 682 club seats at the new BOK Center sold out quickly after being offered to the public.
The speed of the sell-out surprised even the Sports Facilities Marketing Group which was given the job of marketing the seats.
