Greetings,
City of Tulsa employees are dedicated to public service. Two shining examples of employees who have repeatedly gone above and beyond what is expected of them to make sure our citizens and other employees experience the best service possible are Eddy Tijerina, Senior Safety Coordinator, Human Resources Department and Sergeant Skipper Bain, Special Events Coordinator and Police Reserves, Tulsa Police Department.
Last week Eddy and Skipper were the first two employees recognized through Tulsa Blue, a new employee recognition program.
Tulsa Blue is the main color of our City of Tulsa logo that symbolizes the new kind of energy we are experiencing in Tulsa. With this program, blue also identifies the employee’s unique contributions to citizens and employees.
Eddy was selected for this program because of his key role in the move to the new City Hall at One Technology Center. He conducted 83 actual ergonomic evaluations at City Hall since last April and led the effort to ensure that all employees received training about being ergonomically fit in all City Hall move orientation sessions. Many employees were reassured by his “counselor-like” help during this transition to One Technology Center as he made sure their office chairs and equipment fit well.
Sergeant Skipper Bain is a well-recognized face around the City handling events, driving running/biking routes with event organizers, sending out notifications of events and assisting on the day of the events. His 30 years of service with the Tulsa Police Department and praise from citizens who have worked with him in his role as the City’s Special Events Coordinator made him the perfect choice for our employee recognition program.
Colleagues and citizens were instrumental in bringing the exceptional work of these employees to our attention. I’m extremely proud of them for their dedication to our employees and the citizens of Tulsa.
Being mayor is the most rewarding job I’ve ever held, and I am thankful for the dedicated City employees who work with me on a daily basis to improve our government and make it even better!
Sincerely,
Kathy Taylor

Tulsa Police Get
Segways for Patrolling
Tulsa Police will be more mobile and more environmentally friendly in patrolling downtown, assisting with events at the new BOK Center and other events where large crowds gather with the use of six new electrically powered Segways.
The new personal-transportation vehicles, including four designed for use on paved surfaces and two “all-terrain” Segways with larger tires, were unveiled last week and were used for the first time in conjunction with the Saturday night concert by the Eagles at the BOK Center. The all-terrain models can also be used at River Parks and other unpaved venues.
Mayor's Tulsey Awards Accepting Nominations
The Mayor’s Tulsey’s are publicly driven entrepreneur awards that recognize the pioneers and innovators of the Tulsa community. With entrepreneurs making up the fastest-growing business segment in Oklahoma, it is time to honor the entrepreneurs that play a vital role in Tulsa’s economic strength.
The Tulsey’s give 10 entrepreneurs a chance to be honored in one of the following categories: Civic, Emerging, Entertainment, Franchise, Green, Interactive, Legend, Serial, Young and the much-coveted, Entrepreneur of the Year in Tulsa.
Don’t Buy Chemical Cleansers – Make Your Own
Last week we wrote about the many hazardous items that are found in your home, items that require special disposal so that soil and water is not polluted when they are thrown away.
So what should you use instead of chemical cleaners? You’d be surprised that many items you already have at home can be used for cleaning – with great results!
Dine Out and Feed Others
Mayor Taylor proclaims this to be Restaurant Week in Tulsa. That designation means big things for the Community Food Bank of Eastern Oklahoma.
Twenty-one different restaurants around Tulsa are offering special three course meals at discounted prices. When you purchase one of those meals, the establishment will automatically donate 10 percent of your purchase price to the Community Food Bank, matched by another 10 percent donation from The George Kaiser Family Foundation. It is a great way to enjoy a lunch or dinner out and at the same time help our community.

"Winning With Asthma"
Listed as one of the most difficult cities for asthmatics to live in, Tulsa is expanding the “Winning with Asthma” online training program for better asthma supervision and control. The program targets coaches, physical education teachers, and those in asthma management. Started by health departments in Minnesota and Utah, the program grew to include Oklahoma and a total of seven states, which was made possible by the Lt. Governors’ Association.
