Greetings!
Tulsa is once again in the national spotlight due to one of our top high schools receiving historic status. Last Friday I had the pleasure of attending a ceremony designating Will Rogers High School to the National Register of Historic Places. Will Rogers High School, home of the Ropers, is a shining example of our Tulsa Art Deco that is an integral part of our rich heritage.
Coming in the summer of 2008, Tulsa will host Colin Powell’s national America’s Promise Alliance Dropout Prevention Summit. This crucial forum will gather together city and community leaders to come up with an action plan for reducing the high school dropout rates in Tulsa. As mayor, I am committed to helping our young people complete their high school education and making Tulsa a better place for them to live.
In order to help Tulsans fulfill the dream of home ownership, the Greater Tulsa Association of Realtors has partnered with local agencies to launch the North Tulsa Showcase of Homes. "Come Take the Tour" is an outreach effort to promote and encourage home ownership in North Tulsa. The tour will be held for three weekends beginning April 26 and concluding May 11. New homebuyers will have a chance to see new construction, remodeled homes and view an inventory of vacant lots as part of the showcase. Keep watching Tulsa ENews and the City of Tulsa website for more information.
As we look ahead to the next few weeks, please mark your calendars for April 26 and 27 to dispose of any unwanted items at the Quarry Landfill during free landfill days. Take advantage of this opportunity to do your spring cleaning and save money!

Tulsa to Host Dropout
Prevention Summit
Tulsa has been selected to host Colin Powell’s national program America’s Promise Alliance Dropout Prevention Summit. Since 1997, the America’s Promise Alliance has grown to become the largest alliance in the U.S. focused on the well-being of youth.
The forum will bring together city and community leaders to map out an action plan for reducing the alarming high school dropout rates in Tulsa. The city has the 12th highest graduation disparity in the country between urban and suburban school districts.
City Offers Free Landfill

Hours will be 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day. The landfill closes at 3 p.m.
Journal: A Mother and
Daughter's Recovery at PAC
On exhibit in the Performing Arts Center's Gallery through April 27 is "Journal: A Mother and Daughter's Recovery from Breast Cancer," a compelling collection of photographs taken by Annabel Clark, actress Lynn Redgrave's daughter. The photos are accompanied by Redgrave's journal entries during the time shortly after she was diagnosed with breast cancer through to her recovery. The photos are intimate, graphic and, above all, deeply moving.
Find a Rewarding
Career With 911
The 911 Emergency Center in Tulsa is seeking employees interested in long-term careers that are rewarding both financially and morally. The Center’s dedicated personnel perform a vital public service 24 hours a day, regularly assisting callers in life-or-death situations. “I am proud of the continuous high-quality work that our 911 employees do to make Tulsa a safer community,” said Mayor Kathy Taylor.
Will Rogers High School
Receives Historic Designation
Mayor Kathy Taylor and Tulsa Conservation Commission representatives Amanda DeCort and Ed Sherrer joined with Will Rogers High School alumni to celebrate the school’s designation to the National Register of Historic Places. Alumnus Betty Trinka from the Will Rogers Class of 1955 led the festivities, which included unveiling the plaque that proclaims the school’s historic status.
With assistance from the Tulsa Preservation Commission, Will Rogers alumnus Cathy Ambler prepared the petition necessary for national historic recognition of this Tulsa Art Deco treasure.
