Greetings!
As we reach the home stretch of the first month of 2008 there is already much to celebrate. On Tuesday the Tulsa Drillers owner Chuck Lamson and I announced an exclusive agreement to negotiate terms that would bring a new ballpark and the Tulsa Drillers to the East End in Downtown. The new ballpark would be a gateway to the emerging energy of downtown, and would be situated near Brady, the Blue Dome and the Pearl District. This addition would bring the 100-year Tulsa baseball tradition to downtown, in a venue for all Tulsa families to enjoy.
Last week I met with FEMA Administrator David Paulison as well as Oklahoma Congressional representatives in an effort to ensure all have a clear picture of the damage that occurred in Tulsa as a result of the December ice storm. I wanted Mr. Paulison and our Congressional delegation to understand stories and see the pictures of the many Tulsans affected by the widespread power outage and financial loss caused by the storm.
The Staubach Group and I, on behalf of the City of Tulsa, accepted the Outstanding Achievement Award in Public/ Private Partnerships at the U.S. Conference of Mayors in Washington, D.C. The award honors the public/private partnership forged between the City of Tulsa and The Staubach Company for the study that paved the way for the purchase of the One Technology Center; Tulsa’s new City Hall.
I am sure we are all anxious to see the beauty of our City return, and I am happy to report we are making great progress in clearing storm debris from our City streets and neighborhoods. After only 18 days of removal, Storm Reconstruction Services and their fleet of trucks have cleared a total of 880,767 cubic yards; which would be more than one-and-a-half times the size of the BOK Tower! I appreciate your continued patience as we move forward in this second phase of ice storm recovery.
Sincerely,
Kathy Taylor, Mayor
