Should Unleash Your Big Idea

Mayor Kathy Taylor kicked off the 2nd Annual Entrepreneurial Spirit Award competition last week at the Jazz Hall of Fame. Entrepreneurs of all ages attended the nationally recognized competition and brainstorming session about entrepreneurialism in Tulsa with Mayor Taylor.

The Mayor’s Entrepreneurial Spirit Award is sponsored by SpiritBank and will provide cash and services totaling $105,000. The Kauffman Foundation, a nationally recognized entrepreneurial foundation attended the event to recognize the Mayor’s entrepreneurial business plan competition by contributing an extra $5,000 to the grand prize winner. The first place winner will now receive a check for $30,000, second place $5,000, and third place with $2,500.

New Councilors

Tulsa¹s New City Council is in place following the April 1st elections and three new council members are joining the six incumbent councilors returning
to office.

Councilors Jack Henderson in District One, Rick Westcott in District Two, Bill Martinson in District Five, Dennis Troyer in District Six, John Eagleton in District Seven and Bill Christiansen in District Eight are the incumbents beginning new terms.

Hale High School students, Principal Chris Johnson and Mayor Kathy TaylorStudents Help Kick Off Operation CleanSweep


Mayor Taylor kicked off Operation CleanSweep Saturday to begin a month-long spring cleaning effort throughout Tulsa. Mayor Taylor joined Nathan Hale High School Principal Chris Johnson and honor students who were picking up litter around their school and in the nearby neighborhood.

Mayor Kathy Taylor visits with sister and Tulsan Honored Posthumously


Mayor Kathy Taylor attended the Medal of Honor Day Ceremony on March 29, hosted by the Marine Corps League at Veterans Park. The Guest of Honor at the ceremony was Donald E. Ballard who received the Medal of Honor as a Navy Corpsman while fighting in Vietnam.

Mark McCroryMcCrory Accepted in
FBI Academy

Deputy Chief Mark McCrory has been accepted to the Federal Bureau of Investigation National Academy in Quantico, Va.

Admission to the National Academy is limited to the top one percent of law enforcement officers world-wide.  Members selected from the Tulsa Police Department must hold the rank of captain or above.

Dubbed the “FBI Police Training School,” the 10-week session includes courses in Forensic Science, Leadership Development, Law, Behavioral Science, Communication and Health & Fitness.

HelmZarrow Challenge CourseA Little Known Jewel
A little known jewel of Tulsa Public Schools (TPS) is the indoor and outdoor facilities of the HelmZar Challenge and Ropes Course, located at 1006 N. Quaker. The facility was completed last year and offers TPS students a chance to work together as a team and develop important learning skills.
