Family Fest Results: Cleaner Neighborhoods

Mayor Kathy Taylor joined hundreds of volunteer workers, plus City employees and residents of three Tulsa neighborhoods spanning two-square miles at the 1st Annual FamilyFest in Maxwell Park last Saturday.

More than 25 area agencies and business, plus churches, took part and offered free immunizations, dental checkups, haircuts, massages and other services. Door prizes, face-painting for children, a talent showcase and a showcase of art were available during this fun event. Police and Fire Department representatives, City Council members and representatives of other City of Tulsa departments and agencies took part.

Police Develop Task Force to Address Meth Crisis

The Tulsa Police Department Special Investigations Division has developed a task force to address the ongoing Methamphetamine Lab problem. No additional manpower will be allocated rather just increased resources to tackle the issue.

This initiative will target known repeat offenders and their associates through intelligence based analysis. We will be working closely with the Tulsa County District Attorneys Office to not only secure high bonds on these offenders once arrested but also to gain successful convictions.

Last Week to Pay Outstanding Parking Tickets Without Penalty

Holders of unpaid parking tickets have through Friday, April 24, to take advantage of the Parking Ticket Amnesty period that allows violators to pay their fines without paying late fees or court costs.

Payment of outstanding parking citations may be made at the cashier's windows at City Hall in the One Technology Center, 175 E. 2nd Street. Payments can be made in cash, money order, personal check or with Mastercard or Visa credit and debit cards.

Mayor Kathy Taylor

Greetings,

Earth Month continues this week with Earth Day on Wednesday and EnviroFest, sponsored by the Metropolitan Environmental Trust, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Main Street downtown. Booths will feature information about City of Tulsa initiatives that continue to move us forward with "greening" efforts.

Numerous Public Works divisions, including the Environmental Operations Division with its Stormwater Education and Pollution Control Education programs, take a front seat at this Earth Day event. Meanwhile, other programs within the city, like internal recycling and efforts to purchase non-polluting products and energy-saving equipment, will provide energy savings for the city and the best use of taxpayer dollars. All of these programs are helping Tulsa and her residents become "green."

Congratulations to Maxwell, McKinley, Mitchell and Maplewood Neighborhood Associations, our Working In Neighborhoods (WIN) department, and Councilor Patrick for making Family Fest a great success last Saturday. A number of agencies, city services, faith groups and schools joined together and provided fun activities and revitalizing services for the area.

Free Landfill Days will continue for another weekend at Quarry Landfill, Saturday and Sunday. Take advantage of the beautiful spring weather we are slated to have this week and celebrate Earth Day by greening your corner of Tulsa.

Kathy Taylor
Mayor
