Have a Safe 4th At ONEOK Freedomfest '09

The Fourth of July is near and fireworks are being sold throughout the metropolitan area.

While some nearby cities now allow the use of fireworks with appropriate permits, the City of Tulsa's ordinances prohibit the use of fireworks within its corporate boundaries.

Mayor Swears-In 10 New Police Officers

Last Friday, 10 new Tulsa Police Officers graduated from the Tulsa Police Academy and will soon be deployed throughout the city.

The Mayor cited numerous public safety improvements during her tenure as mayor, including implementation of anti-gang and mentoring initiatives, anti-burglary task forces, as well as the implementation of innovative programs like Compstat which allows police to gather and use information more quickly to solve crimes.

Extreme Heat Takes Toll On Waterlines

More waterlines are breaking during this extremely hot weather, due to an increase in water demand and the ground drying out and shifting. So far during the month of June, Tulsa has had 68 water main breaks, compared to the five-year average of 56.

Mayor Kathy Taylor

Greetings,

This weekend as we celebrate the independence of our great country, please remember to say thank you to all of our military personnel, their families and our veterans. Because of the commitment and sacrifices they have made for our country, we are still able to enjoy our freedom and continue celebrating this national holiday.

While you are out and about in Tulsa on the 4th, you and your family can enjoy various activities, such as visiting the Tulsa Zoo, for Red, White and Zoo day, the Gilcrease Museum, or Wing Ding 31 at the Expo Square. And make sure you save time for Tulsa's ONEOK Freedomfest 2009, which offers spectacular fireworks on Saturday night.

The ONEOK Freedomfest 2009 is Tulsa's largest July 4th fireworks display with three entertainment locations along the Arkansas River: River West Festival Park at 2100 South Jackson Avenue, Veterans Park at 1875 South Boulder Avenue and at 1924 South Riverside Drive. See the ONEOK Freedomfest 2009 schedule for times and activities throughout Saturday.

Have a happy and safe 4th of July weekend and never forget the true meaning of this holiday.

Sincerely,
Kathy Taylor
Mayor

I Believe in Tulsa!
