Fryer Oil Collection Set for Sunday

Are you planning to fry that turkey or tur-duck-en for your family on Thursday? If so, you'll have leftover fryer oil. What should you do with it afterwards?

Just in time, the City of Tulsa's Quality Assurance division is partnering with the Metropolitan Environmental Trust to offer you a perfect place to take your used oil. (And you can earn a little Christmas cash, too!)

Beware of Turkey Fryer Hazards This Thanksgiving

The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) is calling on cooks across the nation to include fire safety in their recipes because Thanksgiving is the leading day for home cooking fires. According to NFPA, U.S. firefighters responded to roughly 1,300 home fires in 2007 involving cooking equipment on Thanksgiving, roughly three times the daily average of cooking fires.

Mayor Kathy Taylor

Greetings,

As the Teach for America program continues to grow and reach students in Tulsa Public Schools, most of the program's teachers will not be able to travel back home due to the short holiday week. To show our gratitude and give thanks for the service they provide our students in Tulsa, my family and I hosted an early holiday dinner so each teacher would get a taste of turkey and pumpkin pie. As I spoke with each teacher, they told me the differences they are seeing in the students and the improvements that are being made every day. Tulsa is very fortunate have the Teach for America program, and I hope we continue to see the progress that is being made.

Please remember that city facilities will be closed for an employee furlough day on Wed. Nov. 25 and for the Thanksgiving holiday on Nov. 26 and 27. More information about city services during the holiday week can be found online.

Enjoy the holiday break and have a wonderful Thanksgiving.

Mayor Kathy Taylor
