Mayor Kathy Taylor

Greetings,

Fall is here and is one of Tulsa's most beautiful times of the year. People are more apt to exercise outdoors in the cooler weather and can enjoy the view of vibrant fall foliage in Tulsa through biking.

We have much to be proud of in Tulsa. Earlier this year Tulsa was named a Bike-Friendly Community. We want to encourage cycling for enjoyment and as a method of transportation in our community, so we all need to remember to "share the road."

A couple of months ago we had three tragic fatalities involving bicyclists and cars. So remember to be respectful of each other in traffic and pay close attention and observe the rules of the road. Keep these "Three-Two-One" guidelines in mind when you're traveling our city streets:

Three...is the minimum distance required, by Oklahoma law, when a vehicle passes a bicyclist going in the same direction. Two...is the number of bicyclists that are allowed to ride next to each other on the roadway. One...is the number of seconds it takes for a mistake by a driver or cyclist to cause an accident resulting in injury or even death.
Please, share the road!

Kathy Taylor
Mayor

I Believe in Tulsa!
