Mayor Kathy Taylor

Greetings,

Next week is a very special day in our nation. It is a day set aside every year as a tribute to the contributions workers have made to the strength, prosperity, and well-being of our country. Our nation celebrated its very first Labor Day 125 years ago when some 10,000 workers assembled in New York City to participate in America's first Labor Day parade.

For many this holiday is a time for family picnics and sporting events. It also marks the end of the summer season and the beginning of the football season. I hope you plan on spending time this weekend with your family, enjoying the great weather and remembering those who made this holiday possible.

In addition to the Labor Day holiday, city employees will be taking a furlough day this Friday, September 4. Please refer to the article, "City Offices to Close, Friday and Monday," for information about how city services will be affected during the Labor Day weekend.

We're anticipating great weather this weekend - so get outdoors with your family. You can log your walking, running, biking or swimming activity at www.tulsamillionmiles.com and help us fulfill our goal of one million miles or more as a community. I also encourage you and your family to attend the final home game in the current Tulsa Drillers Stadium on Monday, September 7 at 6:05 p.m. Enjoy the Labor Day holiday!
