It's 2010, and time for the U.S. Census.

In March, census questionnaires will be mailed out to households. Should you complete your household's questionnaire? Is it important to you and your family? The answer quite simply, is YES!

All it takes is just 10 minutes of your time to answer 10 questions that will influence the future.

Jobs Available Through Local Census Office

The new year of 2010 gives Tulsa the opportunity to make sure residents are counted through the U.S. Census.

Census workers are needed in Tulsa. Interested applicants should inquire at the Tulsa Local Census Office, 1411 North 105th East Avenue.

Temporary full-time and part-time jobs in the field start with pay from $10.50 to $16.75 per hour. Jobs include census supervisors, crew leaders and enumerators. Census workers are paid weekly, and night and weekend hours are available.

January is National Mentoring Month

The Mayor's Mentoring to the Max initiative is entering its fourth year with the goal of providing positive role models for Tulsa's youth. Mentoring to the Max is an outgrowth of the 2006 "Building A Safer Tulsa Gang Summit," which focused on real solutions to keep kids out of gangs and end gang violence.

Be Prepared for Broken Water Lines

Single-digit temperatures are forecast for Tulsa within the next few days.

That means home and business owners should be prepared to deal with frozen water pipes in and around their structures and with interruptions in water service.

Expansion and contraction of soils as the earth freezes and thaws often breaks water lines. The City has waterline repair crews on duty and on call around-the-clock. The repair crews try to restore service as quickly as possible to minimize inconvenience to customers, but some interruptions are unavoidable.

Mayor Dewey Bartlett

Tulsans,

During a news conference today, I asked businesses small and large to join me for business forums being held throughout Tulsa to direct our efforts on economic vitality. Five forums will be held in all quadrants of the city where an open dialogue will help us better facilitate growth in our city and remove any roadblocks that businesses have to sustain and grow. It is essential for anyone who owns, manages or is involved with a business to attend one of these forums, so an action plan can be created to better serve you. The first forum is set for Tuesday, March 9 from 5:30 - 7 p.m. at the TCC Center 4 Creativity, 910 S. Boston. The full schedule can be viewed online.

Also announced today was the selection made for our Economic Development Director, Mike Bunney. Mike has more than three decades of experience in the aerospace industry and has served the past two years as the Chief Economic Development Officer for the City. Mike and I will be working together to assist our existing businesses, both large and small. We will also work hard to aggressively recruit businesses to Tulsa and provide more jobs for our citizens. The City of Tulsa is open for business and our business is to develop, market and promote our entire business community.

I look forward to working with each of you in 2010 as we move Tulsa forward.

Sincerely,
Mayor Dewey Bartlett
