Have a Safe Fourth At ONEOK Freedomfest '10

The Fourth of July is near and fireworks are being sold throughout the metropolitan area.

While some nearby cities now allow the use of fireworks with appropriate permits, the City of Tulsa's ordinances prohibit the use of fireworks within its corporate boundaries.

The City's fire code states that "It shall be unlawful and a misdemeanor offense for any person to possess, manufacture, store, sell, handle or use any fireworks within the corporate limits of the City of Tulsa without first having procured an operational permit from the fire code official as required."

Mayor Asks Tulsa CEO's to Mentor

Mayor Dewey Bartlett and Victoria Bartlett were the featured speakers this morning at the Mayor's Mentoring Breakfast and challenged Tulsa CEO's and business leaders to spend an hour a week being a child's friend. The Tulsa Metro Chamber, one of the Mentoring to the Max partners hosted the event.

Mayor Bartlett said, "Mentoring is a very real opportunity in the city of Tulsa. Children crave friendship and love, which they oftentimes don't get at home. Giving a commitment of time to a child is a great gift - mentoring works."

Mayor Dewey Bartlett

Greetings,

Each July 4, we celebrate the anniversary of the signing of our nation's Declaration of Independence. On this, the 234th birthday of the United States of America, we can be proud of our country, where we enjoy more freedoms than any other nation on earth.

Many of us will fly our American flags and enjoy picnics and outdoor activities. Some will shoot off fireworks - outside Tulsa's city limits, of course - and others will watch public fireworks displays with thousands of their friends and neighbors. In whatever way you choose to celebrate this year, be sure to stay safe while having fun - so you'll be around next year when the U.S.A. turns 235.

Best Regards,
Dewey Bartlett
Mayor
