Mayor Dewey Bartlett

I was privileged to administer the oath of office to 35 police officers who returned to service Monday. We received funding for their salaries from the Justice Assistance Grant and did so with the help of Congressman John Sullivan who helped us expedite the process in Washington D.C.

I am very proud of our Tulsa Police Department and the sacrifices these officers have made in the last few weeks. They are all eager to get back to work; that's the kind of people they are - talented, skilled, hard workers who are dedicated to community service.

We continue to have discussions with the Fraternal Order of Police leadership in an effort to bring back the remaining police officers who were laid off due to budget shortfalls in February. The layoffs occurred following a vote of the FOP union to choose between salary concessions or layoffs. We are optimistic we will find a way to both reduce general fund costs in the department, and put more officers back on the streets.

Best Regards,
Dewey F. Bartlett Jr.
Mayor
