There's Still Time to Vote for Your Animal Shelter!

Tulsa Animal Welfare (TAW) is a front runner in the Pepsi Refresh funding contest and the lucky winner will receive $25,000! The final voting tally for the top project closes September 30, so visit the Web site to register and vote for TAW every day. Finalists will be announced October 1.

If TAW receives enough online votes, $25,000 in funds would be used to build a new, larger surgical suite, providing additional and updated equipment. Two major goals are: to provide better care for more injured and ill animals; and to expand its spay and neuter program to reduce the number of unwanted animals in our community.

Mayor Dewey Bartlett

Greetings,

Last week, immediately following the State of the City address, I flew to New York City on city-related business. I traveled with Oklahoma Commerce Secretary Natalie Shirley and Oklahoma City Mayor Mick Cornett to discuss the conditions and opportunities we have in Tulsa and in our great state of Oklahoma. My goal was to showcase and promote our strengths to the rest of the nation, especially with respect to energy resources and sustainability programs, entrepreneurship and small business, manufacturing and aerospace.

While in New York City, we spoke to reporters with Time Magazine, Bloomberg News, the New York Times and The Christian Science Monitor. As I spoke to these reporters, I reflected on Tulsa's solid position in the worldwide energy market, which we can capitalize on to seize opportunities in alternative energy and sustainability programs, as well as our tremendous energy-related manufacturing capability.

In Tulsa, our conservative spending decisions will ensure continued economic momentum as we recover from the effects of the national recession. During this trip, we also visited with site selection consultants and financial advisors who are looking for capital investments across the country.

I want to thank Commerce Secretary Shirley and the Tulsa Metro Chamber for hosting this trip and enhancing our economic development efforts in Tulsa.

Best regards,
Dewey Bartlett
Mayor of Tulsa
