Celebrating Food Day - Oct. 24

In Tulsa and all across our great nation, citizens will join together and celebrate Food Day on October 24. This national grassroots campaign is aimed at encouraging and inspiring Americans to eat delicious, healthy and affordable food.

Mayor Dewey Bartlett has challenged statewide mayors to join him in issuing a proclamation to help citizens be more aware of their food intake and to eat more fruits and vegetables. The mayor will issue his Food Day proclamation at a 2 p.m. news conference on Monday, Oct. 24 at Cam's Grocery Store, 114 S. Detroit. He will also highlight Cam's upcoming Harvest Festival 2011 on Saturday, Oct. 29 from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. to celebrate the local fall harvest and Food Day.

Mayor Bartlett said, "Oklahoma ranks last in the U.S. for fruit and vegetable consumption and our obesity rate has risen faster than any other state, nearly tripling since 1995. It's time for us to get serious about eating healthy, nutritious foods and being good role models for our kids and grandkids. We want all of our families in Tulsa and this great state to lead long, healthy lives."

Victoria Bartlett, Get Lean Tulsa spokesperson, encourages Tulsans to visit the City of Tulsa's healthy and fit website and said, "With more than 100 health-wise recipes online, Get Lean Tulsa makes it easy for you to cook simple delicious food for your family."
