Message, continued...
Greetings,
Last week, around 85 Tulsa Metro Chamber members, staff, local
business leaders, area municipal leaders, and I had the great
opportunity to explore Indianapolis, Indiana.
Known as America's most walkable city, Indianapolis, in my
opinion, is one of the best-run cities in this country. You may
recall that KPMG, the company who has been evaluating Tulsa, first
made its mark in realigning Indianapolis with efficient methods of
government management.
Those involved in the Indianapolis trip had a firsthand look at
how those efficiency methods have served this beautiful city where
development along the river and in the downtown areas is
strong.
The opportunity to travel outside of Tulsa with a diverse group
of business and municipal leaders was a good experience. It gave us
a chance to view, with fresh eyes, a city on the move and to talk
about the ways we can continue to move Tulsa forward.
Indianapolis has accelerated a move to advance city/county
partnerships. This model city has saved tremendously on those
services where one vendor can do the work for both government
entities. We are experiencing that same progress here in Tulsa and
Tulsa County.
As we explore cities that have pioneered the tough roads to
success, the less we have to re-invent the wheel, so to speak.
Trips like the one to Indianapolis have allowed us to take
advantage of learning tried and true methods we can use to further
develop Tulsa.
My congratulations to Mike Neal and his staff at the Tulsa Metro
Chamber of Commerce, for a trip we are all better informed for
making.
Best regards,
Dewey Bartlett
Mayor of Tulsa
