Tulsa to Receive COPS Grant Funding
Mayor Dewey Bartlett and Police Chief Chuck Jordan announced
yesterday that the City of Tulsa Police Department was notified of
the award of the 2011 COPS Hiring Program grant from the Department
of Justice.
The award is approximately $3.5 million over the three-year
grant period, funding 19 officer positions. A police academy is
already budgeted and scheduled for December of 2011. The COPS
Hiring Grant positions will be included in either a spring or
summer police academy.
Mayor Bartlett said he is pleased the Tulsa Police Department is
eligible for the allocation. This recent round of COPS grants were
awarded only to those cities that previously received COPS funding.
The City has 90 days to review the terms of the grant.
