Public Comment Welcome at Brownfields Meeting, Nov. 17
Anyone curious about Brownfields or who would like to comment on
the City's Brownfields plan can attend an information meeting about
the North Tulsa Brownfields Strategic Action Plan - a Brownfields
area-wide planning pilot program funded by the Environmental
Protection Agency. The meeting will be held Thursday, Nov. 17, at 6
p.m. in the North Mabee Boys & Girls Club Auditorium Room, 3001
N. Cincinnati Ave.
Refreshments will be served from 6 to 6:30 p.m., and a
presentation will begin at 6:30 p.m., followed by a time for
questions and answers.
At this meeting, residents can learn about Brownfields and how
potential Brownfields are identified. "Brownfield sites" means real
property, the expansion, redevelopment, or reuse of which may be
complicated by the presence or potential presence of a hazardous
substance, pollutant or contaminant.
The City of Tulsa has received a grant from the Environmental
Protection Agency to complete a strategic planning process for
redevelopment of key Brownfield sites in the area generally within
the boundaries of Interstate 244 on the south, East 36th
St. N. on the north, North Peoria Ave. on the east, and North
Cincinnati Ave. on the west. The planning process will continue
through the fall of 2012, with several public meetings to be
scheduled during this time.
Planning for the assessment, cleanup and reuse of Brownfield
sites supports revitalization of areas around them through
improvement of environmental and socio-economic conditions. This
planning program will enable the City of Tulsa to spread the word
among potential developers of Brownfield sites about opportunities
to work with the City and what the City can offer.
