Tulsans Encouraged to Dream Big at the Dream Exhibit
On Nov. 9, Mayor Bartlett officially opened the Dream Exhibit at
the Tulsa Historical Society, 2445 S. Peoria Ave. The exhibit was
made possible through the generous sponsorship of The Williams
Companies and is part of the Across the Generations One City, One
Book program developed to start an intergenerational dialogue and
invite ideas from Tulsans of all ages.
Families, schools, and seniors groups are encouraged to read
Susan V. Bosak's award-winning book, Dream: A Tale of Wonder,
Wisdom & Wishes. The book is illustrated by 15 top artists
from around the world and is a multilayered story for children and
adults about hopes and dreams across a lifetime - from the time
you're a baby to the time you're an older adult. Copies of
Dream have been generously donated to local schools,
libraries, and community groups by The Anne & Henry Zarrow
Foundation. The Dream books are also available for
purchase in the Tulsa Historical Society Museum's gift shop.
The Dream Exhibit features all of the original artwork created
for Dream - including watercolor, oil, digital, 3-D
modeling clay, and more. There's also the magical, handcrafted
Dream Chest inspired by the chest in the book. Computer
interactives and concept drafts reveal the secrets behind the
creative process. Parents, children, and grandparents can write
their dreams and hopes for Tulsa's future on Dream Stars and post
them on the Dream Wall. The Dream Exhibit will be on display at the
Tulsa Historical Society Museum until the fall, 2012.
One City, One Book also offers a "Listen to a Life Essay
Contest" for young people, ages 8 - 18, which runs through
March 30, 2012. Young people are encouraged to interview a
grandparent or grandfriend, 50 years or older about their life's
hopes and dreams, and how they overcame obstacles to achieve their
goals - and then submit a 300-word essay. The Grand Prize in the
"Listen to a Life Essay Contest" is a Lenovo ThinkCentre
computer. Plus, the school of the winning young person receives
$25,000 of EdOptions' products. Twenty runners-up will receive an
MP3 player and $400 of EdOptions' products.
