Mayor Recognizes City Employees for Public Service

Mayor Dewey Bartlett has honored two City of Tulsa employees for their outstanding service to the citizens of Tulsa and their colleagues through the City's Tulsa Blue Employee Recognition Program.

Mayor Bartlett presented awards to Thomas Chandler, who works in the Public Works/Public Facilities Maintenance Department, and the family of Jennifer Mansell, who was recognized posthumously for her 25 years of service as a Tulsa police officer. "Both of these individuals went above and beyond their duties and are great examples of public service," Bartlett said.

"Thomas Chandler always does a great job of keeping our City facilities running smoothly. He played a vital role in making required improvements so that the Tulsa Zoo could retain its accreditation with the Association of Zoos and Aquariums. He also worked diligently with Oklahoma Natural Gas during the Christmas weekend to restore heat to the zoo's lion exhibit," he said.

The mayor also recognized and thanked Jennifer Mansell's family for their presence at the ceremony. "Jennifer Mansell made an impact during her years of service as Tulsa's first downtown safety liaison. She regularly befriended and welcomed homeless people to her home in Talala to give them a sense of what a real home was like," he said.

"She juggled her career as a police officer with a nine-year fight against breast cancer and was the personification of a public servant who truly exemplified the spirit and dedication of the Tulsa Blue award."
So far 17 employees, nominated by their colleagues and residents, have been recognized with certificates and awards for their service to the city. Blue is the dominant color in the city's logo and symbolizes the extraordinary customer service that is shown to residents and co-workers by exemplary city of Tulsa employees.

New citizen nominations are now being accepted online at: www.cityoftulsa.org/tulsablue Simply fill out the online form, including a brief description of why a City employee should be a Tulsa Blue recipient.
