City of Tulsa Maintenance: Flushing Water Lines
Beginning with Tulsa's oldest neighborhoods, serviced by the
Mohawk water treatment plant, residents may expect to see crews in
their neighborhoods flushing water lines as early as next week.
The flushing process is part of regular maintenance performed to
remove sediment and mineral deposits from over 2,200 miles of water
lines. The flushing process also allows crews to check hydrant and
valve operations. Tulsa has nearly 16,000 hydrants
City crews will place door hangers with scheduled flushing times
on the front doors of homes in the days just prior to the flushing
process in that neighborhood.
During the flushing, water may become discolored or have a
strong odor. If that happens, residents should allow cold water
faucets to run until the water is clear. Residents should also
avoid doing laundry until that water runs clear to prevent stains
on fabrics.
