May Sales Tax Release: Good News for Tulsa
Mayor Dewey Bartlett says the City of Tulsa's sales tax revenue
for mid-March to mid-April, as reported by the Oklahoma Tax
Commission, is up 3.14 percent compared to the same period last
year. Tulsa received $17,206,677, which compares to $16,682,891 for
the same period a year ago.
For the year-to-date, the City has received $183,456,019, or
about 2.51 percent more than for last year's year-to-date total of
$178,962,280.
The collections were 11.58 percent above budget estimates for
the month. Year-to-date the collections are 4.94 percent above
budget estimates.
"We saw a gain for the month that in part is likely attributable
to the Round 2 and 3 NCAA games being held at the BOK Center," said
Mayor Dewey Bartlett. "We continue to have steady growth in sales
tax revenues over last year and the combined effort of the
Chamber/Tulsa Sports Commission, University of Tulsa, BOK
Center and others to put Tulsa on the NCAA map are paying off."
"Better yet, we will increase our chances of being considered to
host future NCAA championship events. Tulsa is in a period of
economic recovery and we are thankful our resources have improved
so we can invest in our city again," Bartlett said.
Use taxes received in May are $1,586,507, which are 16.89
percent higher than the same period last year and 23.85 percent
above budget estimates. For the year-to-date, use tax collections
total $16,009,862, which is 9.58 percent ahead of last year and
4.27 percent above budget estimates.
