Edwards Named Director of Water & Sewer Dept.
Last week Clayton Edwards, deputy director of Environmental
Services in the Public Works Department, was selected to lead the
new Water and Sewer Department as its Director, effective July
1.
"Clayton is the best person to lead this department and has
experience administering a $115 million budget," said Mayor
Bartlett. "He is an exceptional leader in operational and strategic
planning for the City's water and sewer systems. He has worked with
the Tulsa Metropolitan Utility Authority on system, operations and
environmental policies, successfully assuring water quality and
safeguarding our city's water supply."
Bartlett also noted that Edwards led strategies to remove taste
and odor from Tulsa's drinking water when the city experienced
these issues, which were caused by nutrient runoff in our source
lakes several years ago, avoiding the temporary abandoning of one
of the city's water supplies.
Edwards, a professional engineer, has been with the City of
Tulsa since 1985, when he began his career as a water design
engineer. In 1990, he was promoted to lead water design engineer,
then was a planning and coordination manager in July 2000 and
became Public Works deputy director in 2001. As Deputy Director,
Edwards is responsible for the advanced planning and direction of
operation and maintenance activities for the water and sewer
treatment facilities; water, storm water and wastewater systems;
environmental monitoring and water, wastewater, and industrial
pretreatment quality control programs.
Edwards holds a Bachelor of Science and Master of Science
degrees in Civil Engineering from the University of
Missouri-Columbia.
