Accidental Calls to 9-1-1
With the mandatory area code dialing in place since March 5,
2011, 9-1-1 is experiencing an increase in the number of callers
who accidently call 9-1-1 and immediately hang up. Officials with
9-1-1 urge callers who accidently call 9-1-1 for any
reason to stay on the phone and report it as a mistake.
When the 9-1-1 dispatcher receives a hang-up call, he or she
must call back to find out if there is an emergency. If the caller
does not answer, officers will be sent out to the location to check
for a problem.
