Two 18-Hole Golf Courses Still Open At Page Belcher, Mohawk Park
ARCHIVED PRESS RELEASE: Published 9-1-2010
Two 18-hole golf courses remain open at Page Belcher and Mohawk
Park and tee time reservations are being taken, while work
continues on replacing the grass on the greens at two other
courses.
Work began in early August renovating the greens on the Olde
Page course at Page Belcher and the Woodbine course at Mohawk Park
, replacing the existing bentgrass turf with a bermuda grass better
suited to Oklahoma's summer climate.
But the Stone Creek course at Page Belcher and the Pecan Valley
course are still open and available for play.
Golf courses general manager Tom Wolff, of Billy Casper Golf,
which manages the courses under contract with the City of Tulsa,
said tee-time reservations fell off after the greens renovation
project was announced. "We think that golfers may have
misunderstood and are thinking that all the courses at Mohawk Park
and Page Belcher are closed."
Play continues at Stone Creek and Pecan Valley, and is expected
to resume on Woodbine and Olde Page sometime in early
October. The exact re-opening date depends on rainfall and
temperatures between now and October. Time must be allowed for the
new grass sprigs to take root and become established before the
greens can be re-opened.
"But we are on schedule, and we look forward to announcing the
date when those two courses will be re-opened in just a few weeks,"
Wolff said.
