JAG Grant Authorized for Police Rehires
ARCHIVED PRESS RELEASE: Published 2-19-2010
Mayor Dewey Bartlett announced his office received authorization
from the Bureau of Justice Assistance to use $3 million of a
Justice Assistance Grant to rehire 35 police officers for 17
months.
Confirmation was received in a 4:42 p.m. e-mail from Carol
Poole, acting deputy director for programs for the Bureau. Details
of the call back will be arranged next week.
Bartlett credited Congressman John Sullivan for expediting the
process after a week when most Washington D.C. officials were out
of the office during the blizzard, delaying communication on the
grant.
"I just spoke with Chief Jordan and we are both very pleased to
be able to get the process started to rehire 35 officers to our
fine police department," Bartlett said. "I appreciate every effort
Congressman Sullivan and his staff made to assist with this
grant."
