Fryer Oil Collection Event on Sunday, Nov. 27

The City of Tulsa, in partnership with the Metropolitan
Environmental Trust (The M.E.T.), will collect used fryer oil
following the Thanksgiving holiday.
The event will be held Sunday, Nov. 27 from 10 a.m. - 3 p.m. at
The M.E.T. Recycling Center, 3495 South Sheridan Road. Giveaways
will be handed out to participants who drop-off any type of used
cooking oil on that day.
Used cooking oil can be recycled into other usable products like
animal feed, biodiesel, and even cosmetics. Recycling your cooking
oil prevents improper disposal in drains. When grease or other
types of greasy foods are disposed of in a household drain or
neighborhood storm drain, the grease can clog sewer lines and wreak
havoc on local ponds, rivers, and streams creating environmental
and public health hazards.
Such problems can occur any time of year, but are particularly
prevalent around the holidays, when people are washing a lot of
fatty and greasy foods down the drain. The fats, oils, and grease
from the food can build up inside the pipes and could cause raw
sewage to back out of the sewer into people's homes, businesses,
and the environment.
Citizens can bring cooking oils to any one of The M.E.T.'s
recycling centers around the Tulsa metro area, throughout the year.
The City of Tulsa has partnered with The M.E.T. since 2007 to host
this popular event.
