Annexation
Public Hearing scheduled for Oct.
20, 2011, to discuss West Fenceline Annexation
The City of Tulsa is planning to extend its western municipal
boundary by creating a fence line that lies roughly along
57th West Avenue from the Arkansas River southward to
51st Street.
An earlier fence line proposal extended the boundary further
west, to the existing Sand Springs municipal boundary. Mayor Dewey
Bartlett changed the alignment after listening to objections of
Berryhill residents who did not want to be annexed.
The new alignment would extend the City's boundary to include
the right-of-way for the west leg of the Gilcrease Expressway. The
City has already invested millions of dollars in the expressway
project, including purchasing land in and near the
right-of-way.
The fence line is actually an annexation of a 300-foot strip of
property. Some properties surrounded by the fence line, for
which owners have already granted consent to be annexed, are also
included. However the fence line annexation does not constitute
total annexation of all properties surrounded by the fence
line.
Total annexation of the fenced area would only come later and
with the consent of the owners of a majority of the property, by
acreage.
The City Council will host a public hearing at 6 p.m. on Oct.
20, 2011, as a part of the regular Thursday-night City Council
meeting, for discussion of the west fence line annexation.
All interested parties are welcome to attend that meeting, to
sign-in and speak, or to ask questions about the project.
The Tulsa City Council meets in Council Chambers on the 2nd
floor of City Hall at One Technology Center, 175 E. 2nd St, in
downtown Tulsa.
