Fire Investigation
Mission Statement: Compile all pertinent facts and
information about and determine the cause of fires for the purpose
of preventing fires.
During the 2007-2008 fiscal year, Tulsa Fire Investigators
investigated 523 fires, 241 of which were determined to be
incendiary. Sixty-two arrests were made. Of the 62 arrests made, 51
were adults and 11 were juveniles.
There were 8 fire fatalities during this period. One death was
attributed to arcing, 3 deaths were attributed to candles and the
remaining 4 deaths appear to be accidental in nature but are still
under investigation. Five of the 8 fire fatalities occurred during
Tulsa's December 2007 ice storm.
One Investigator graduated from the Tulsa Police Academy at the
beginning of 2008. He is now a full time Investigator working the
day shift.
The Tulsa Fire Investigation Branch continued ongoing efforts to
upgrade its electronic reporting capabilities. Additional
improvements will be made to the Electronic Reporting System. Case
files will continue to be entered into the system and converted to
PDF format.
