The studio is housed in a renovated historical building that once served as Tulsa's water treatment plant and later the City's first public swimming pools. It was named WaterWorks to maintain those historical roots.

WaterWorks Art Studio partners with such prominent organizations as the Gilcrease Museum, Tulsa City-County Library, Tulsa Zoo and Oxley Nature Center, as well as with the public and private schools, serving artists of all ages and the public at large.

A Broad Range of Art Classes and Workshops

One of Oklahoma's premier art centers, Water- Works Art Studio offers approximately 300 classes and workshops annually in:

Printmaking - Oil Painting - Watercolors - Pastels - Drawing - Calligraphy - Photography - Pottery - Clay Sculpture - Fused & Stained Glass - Jewelry - Fiber Arts - Metalsmithing - Papermaking - and other media. Pottery Wheel

Based on requests, Studio staff will customize workshops to fit the needs of community groups, businesses and the schools. Also, "Open Studio" provides equipment and space for beginning and experienced artists, to practice and work.

WaterWorks Exhibitions of Quality Fine Art

Artists from Tulsa and the surrounding communities present their work at juried and invitational exhibitions held regularly in the Studio's gallery. In addition, WaterWorks students, teachers, and local artists, show and sell their work at two special events each year, the "WaterWorks Art Market" in the spring and the "Holiday Art Market" in the fall.

The "WaterWorks Art Market" is a major community event that is held on the grounds of Gilcrease Museum. While the art sale benefits the artists, a silent auction, also held at the exhibition, benefits the WaterWorks Art Studio Advisory Council. The Council, which enjoys nonprofit status, raises funds for the Studio, initiates projects and cosponsors scholarships for at-risk children.

Bringing Fine Arts to our Children

Children doing an art project.Bringing fine arts to our children is a major objective of the Studio. Working with both private and public schools, WaterWorks creates art-enrichment programs for children from kindergarten through 12th grade. Also, the Studio works with school grant programs to provide onsite workshops tailored to the needs of each school.

Each spring and summer the WaterWorks Art Studio offers reasonably-priced fine-arts camps for children. Camp projects are theme based, and children work in a variety of media for in-depth art experiences.

An annual Children's Art Show is held in August in the Studio's gallery and is also presented at the Gilcrease Museum and Tulsa's downtown Central Library.
