City Facility Closings - Service Interruptions and Delays 

Due to inclement weather, recycling, yard waste, bulky waste and dead animal pickup services have been suspended until the weather breaks. These employees have shifted their duties and are currently working to help clear streets of snow and ice.

Snow and Ice Response, December 10: Snow and ice crews are assigned to 35 specific routes totaling 1,768 lane-miles. During the storm, crews used 5,358 tons of salt, plowed 12,000 arterial lane miles and treated 18,000 miles of arterial and collector streets. The Streets & Stormwater Dept. is no longer on 24-hour operations, but treating streets and areas with steep hills when needed.

 Sand and Salt Supply, Operations

The City of Tulsa is responsible for clearing snow and ice from certain segments of the Tulsa expressway system and all arterial (main) streets. Other expressway segments in Tulsa are the responsibility of the Oklahoma Department of Transportation. Tulsa County maintains arterials outside of the corporate limits of Tulsa and neighboring cities.

The goal of the program is to make expressways and arterial streets safe and passable as soon as possible after snowfall or ice begins.

  • 63 truck-mounted spreaders
  • 45 truck-mounted snow plows
  • 3 motor graders for use as plows
  • Approximately 14,500 tons of salt
  • 170 employees

The spreaders are assigned to 35 specific routes totaling 1,768 lane-miles. Spreading and plowing routes are prioritized based on traffic counts.
