Tulsa Sustainability Task Force

On March 5, 2025, Mayor Nichols issued Executive Order No. 2025-04 establishing the Tulsa Sustainability Task Force and laying the foundation for a City Office of Sustainability and/or an Authority, Board, or Commission of City Sustainability.


The Tulsa Sustainability Task Force is hosting a series of public meetings across Tulsa to share its goals and gather public input on how Tulsa should prioritize sustainability. Meet members of the task force, learn about the Planitulsa comprehensive plan and share your thoughts.

Meeting Minutes

On May 9, 2025, the Tulsa Sustainability Taskforce met for its first meeting, in-person at City Hall. The meeting began with introductions and an overview, led by Mayor Monroe Nichols, of Executive Order No. 2025-04. The meeting proceeded with the identification of funding sources to support sustainability initiatives and the identification of cities across the country that have successfully developed sustainability offices, initiatives, and programs. The meeting concluded with proposals for the creation of priority-aligned working groups.

On May 23, 2025, the Tulsa Sustainability Taskforce met for its second meeting, virtually on Zoom. The meeting began with a meeting recap followed by a presentation on Planitulsa’s sustainability actions by Jeremy Banes. The taskforce then discussed working group priorities and working group membership. Upon adjournment, taskforce members were asked to submit their working group preferences.
On June 12, 2025, the Tulsa Sustainability Taskforce met for its third meeting, in-person at City Hall. Following a brief recap of the previous meeting, the taskforce’s two established two internal working groups split into breakout rooms. The two working groups, Planitulsa Review Working Group and Questions for Cities Working Group, worked respectively to establish criteria to narrow the list of Planitulsa actions and develop a questions document for cities with sustainability offices/initiatives/programs. The meeting concluded with a progress update from the internal working groups.
On June 26, 2025, the Tulsa Sustainability Taskforce met for its fourth meeting, virtually on Zoom. The meeting began with a brief recap of the taskforce’s current progress. Following the recap, the taskforce split into breakout rooms to review the Planitulsa actions selected by the Planitulsa Review Working Group. The meeting concluded with a conversation about community engagement and ways the taskforce could organize community conversations, receive community input, engage community partners, and utilize tools to collect feedback. 
On July 10, 2025, the Tulsa Sustainability Taskforce met for its fifth meeting. This meeting was a hybrid meeting with most members meeting in person at City Hall and others attending via Zoom. The meeting began with a brief recap of the task force’s current progress and the timeline for the report. Following the recap, the task force split into separate conference rooms to continue their review of the Planitulsa actions selected by the Planitulsa Review Working Group. This work continued until the end of the meeting. The next meeting is scheduled for July 24th via Zoom, where the task force will continue their review work and discuss a public meeting series to receive public feedback.
On July 24, 2025, the Tulsa Sustainability Taskforce met for its sixth meeting. This meeting was a virtual meeting via Zoom. The meeting began with a brief recap of the task force’s current progress and the timeline for the report. Following the recap, the task force split into separate breakout rooms to continue their review of the Planitulsa actions selected by the Planitulsa Review Working Group. This work continued until the end of the meeting. The next meeting is scheduled for August 8th at City Hall and via Zoom, where the task force will continue their review work and finalize a public meeting series to receive public feedback.
On August 8, 2025, the Tulsa Sustainability Taskforce met for its seventh meeting. This meeting was a hybrid meeting with most members meeting in person at City Hall and others attending via Zoom. The meeting began with a brief recap of the task force’s current progress, a review of the communication plan, and finalized the survey they will ask the public to complete. Following the recap, the task force split into separate conference rooms to finish their review of the Planitulsa actions selected by the Planitulsa Review Working Group. This work continued until the end of the meeting. The next meeting is scheduled for August 21st at City Hall and via Zoom, where the task force will review locations, and materials for the upcoming "Let's Talk: Sustainability: series.
On August 21, 2025, the Tulsa Sustainability Taskforce met for its eighth meeting. This meeting was a hybrid meeting with most members meeting in person at City Hall and others attending via Zoom. The meeting began with a brief recap of the last meeting and providing time for any remaining Planitulsa review. Following the recap, the task force reviewed all promotional material and survey material that will be at the upcoming "Let's Talk: Sustainability" meetings and offered their advice and approval. This work continued until the end of the meeting. The next meeting is scheduled for September 4that City Hall and via Zoom, where the task force will review the first two "Let's Talk: Sustainability" meetings and begin building out the outline of the Mayor's report.
