Commission Members

Human Rights Commission consists of 17 members who broadly represent the diverse population of Tulsa. Commissioners are appointed for a term of three years and may be eligible for re-appointment for a consecutive term of three years.

The function of the Human Rights Commission is to foster mutual respect and understanding and to create an atmosphere conducive to the promotion of amicable relations among all members of the city's community.

Through its work, the Human Rights Commission strives to:

  • Identify and enlist community resources to secure and extend democratic rights, opportunities and practices and to encourage community support for human and civil rights programs;
  • Utilize the resources of individuals and groups within the community to improve inter-group relations;
  • Plan and conduct meetings, surveys, educational and other programs concerning human and civil rights;
  • Conduct such activities or hearings necessary to implement the provisions of this chapter;
  • Issue such publications and reports which will promote good will and reduce discrimination;
  • Enforce the City of Tulsa human rights ordinance that prohibits discrimination by serving as a quasi-judicial hearing board for human rights ordinance cases;
  • Report to the Mayor and Council disposition of all complaints referred to the Commission annually.
